Who I Am
I am an educator with over 45 years of experience working with all age groups in both public and private settings. I earned both my B.Ed and my M.Ed at the University of Calgary, and in addition to being a Certified Life Coach (Dip. LC), I was an educator with the Canadian Red Cross and a Master First Aid Educator with the International Red Cross Global First Aid Reference Centre.
I have dedicated decades of my life to providing humanitarian service to others. In 2017 I was awarded the Order of the Red Cross, and I am proud of this organization and its work. With training in Psychological First Aid, Psychosocial First Aid, Skills for Psychological Recovery, and Mental Health First Aid, I am able to support you in many ways. As an active researcher and practitioner with a passion for helping improve the lives of others through knowledge and empowerment, I will work with you to change your life.
My Approach
A guiding framework woven through my coaching practice — simple commitments that create space for real change.
Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean, and avoid using words against yourself or others.
What others say and do is a projection of their own reality. Freeing yourself from this protects you from needless suffering.
Find the courage to ask questions and communicate clearly, to avoid misunderstandings, sadness, and drama.
Your best will change from moment to moment. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and avoid self-judgment.
Based on The Four Agreements by don Miguel Ruiz (1997, Amber-Allen Publishing). Ask about the "Four Agreements in Real Life" workshop to go deeper.
A Specialty Practice
In addition to traditional coaching, I specialize in healthcare and trauma life coaching, acting as your advocate in times of stress and illness. My training in Psychological First Aid (PFA) and Skills for Psychological Recovery (SPR) — through the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, the National Center for PTSD, and the Canadian Red Cross — gives me complementary strategies to help clients navigate stress and trauma.
The universal experience of the pandemic encouraged all of us to re-evaluate our lives and revisit our priorities. Now, more than ever, taking care of ourselves and those closest to us helps us become more resilient as we move into the future.
Using the Four Agreements and guided practice — including breathing and visualization techniques — we work together toward a more balanced lifestyle and vision for the future. I can help make sense of the competing voices in your life and offer an unbiased ear. You can get lost and consumed by trauma, and I can help you find serenity and balance.
Getting Started
How will you know life coaching is for you?
Held virtually or in a public cafe, wherever we feel safe and comfortable, so we can get to know one another before committing.
A full hour together, where we set out some goals and I learn more about your needs.
Subsequent sessions vary in length, depending on your needs.
For Individuals & Groups
Also offered for organizations and groups looking to build workplace wellbeing.
For empty nesters and parents of teens finding their footing. Share experiences and develop a toolkit to interact with your children in a new and fulfilling way at this stage of the relationship.
Explore why you say "yes" to more than you can handle, and practice saying "no" in a safe space — building strategies for a more balanced, fulfilling life.
Drawing on psychological first aid, skills for psychological recovery, and mental health first aid to build a toolkit for coping, perspective, and recovery. Each session is tailored to the group.
An introduction to the Four Agreements and how they apply in daily life — the foundation for working with the agreements individually.
What screws us up most in life is the picture in our head of how things are supposed to be. Identify the expectations driving disappointment, and learn to shift your inner dialogue.
Client Experiences
I can tell you about my credentials and experience, but it's the clients who have already walked this path who can relate best to you.
Diane has been my life coach for a few months now, and she has been the person to nurse my spirit. My soul was in need of help after having my second child. My physical health wasn't the problem — I couldn't find the time for myself, my children, and my husband. I couldn't cope with everything that was "thrown at me." Diane taught me that we all do our best, which is different for every person. She taught me how to create time and let my spirit find its way back. I now have the patience and understanding to make a happier home. Just when I think I am not doing the best I can, Diane lets me know I am.
I've never met this angel on earth named Diane. I am a friend of a client of hers and know she is making a huge difference in the life of my dear friend — I may say she has saved my friend's life. Diane has patiently, faithfully, and knowledgeably empowered my friend to believe in herself. Thanks to Diane being her life coach, I can just be a friend, knowing she is getting expert support.
Feel free to get in touch if you'd like to speak with a current or former client about their experience.
